Evenings of Piano Concerti Season III Featuring PIOTR PALECZNY


NEW YORK, NY, FEBRUARY 22, 2010 -- A non-profit classical music advocacy group comprising New York’s most talented concert pianists and conductors, New York Concert Artists & Associates (NYCA) will present Evenings of Piano Concerti Season III (EPC III) from Saturday April 24 through Saturday May 29, 2010 in New York City. Now in its third season, EPC III will feature seven Saturday evenings of piano concerti at Good-Shepherd Church and Merkin Hall, a special performance of Chopin by Piotr Paleczny on Thursdsay May 27 at the Polish Consulate commemorating the composer’s 200th anniversary, and two master classes at the Yamaha Piano Salon. The orchestra for the seven evenings will be the Manhattan Chamber Orchestra and Mr. Paleczny will be joined by the New York String Quartet. The conductors for the series will be Ken-David Masur (San Antonio Symphony and son of legendary Kurt Masur), David Gilbert (Greenwich Symphony, Bergen Philharmonic), Eduard Zilberkant (Fairbanks Symphony), and Richard Auldon Clark (Manhattan Chamber Orchestra). The master classes will be given by Piotr Paleczny (Warsaw Chopin Academy of Music and Chopin Piano Festival Duszniki Zdroj) and William-Grant Nabore (International Piano Academy, Lake Como, Italy).

Each of the seven nights of piano concerti will feature different pianists, including 2009/10 international piano competition prize winners, many of whom are NYCA’s own member pianists. The competitions include the Cleveland International Piano Competition, the Maria Canals International Piano Competition, and the International Vendome Prize. The concerti performed will draw from classical music’s most powerful, beautiful, and intriguing repertoire including pieces by Chopin, Schumann, Rachmaninoff, Haydn, Mozart, and Beethoven. There will also be performances of rare works composed by Vaughan Williams and César Franck.

NYCA will host a fundraising event at the Samsung Experience store in the Time Warner Center on Friday April 9 at 6:00 p.m. The event will be a concert preview for EPC III with some of the series’ pianists performing solo. The concert preview will be followed by an in-store reception.

Klara Min, directora artística de New York Concerts Artists and Associates Inc., organitza per primer cop un recital a Barcelona amb joves promeses

La pianista coreana Jung Eu Kim i la flautista Sangae Kim actuen a Barcelona acompanyades de la pianista austríaca Astrid Steinschaden. El recital, amb títol "Vespre de flauta i piano", té lloc al Petit Palau de la Música el proper 1 de juny a les 19 hores.

La primera part del concert, a càrrec de la pianista Jung Eun Kim, inclou obres de Franz Liszt -Tre Sonetti di Petrarca, Sonetto 47 del Petrarca o Sonetto 123 del Petrarca-, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart -Allegro, Andante cantabile o Allegretto grazioso- i Frederic Chopin - Fantasie-Impromptu- entre d'altres.

La segona part, que comptarà amb les interpretacions de la flautista Sangae Kim acompanyada al piano per Astrid Steinhardt, inclou peces d'Alfredo Casella -Sicilienne et Burlesque-, Pierre-Octave Ferroud -Trois pieces-, Henry Dutilleux -Sonatine- o Robert Muczynski -Sonata, Vivace, Andante- entre moltes altres.

El concert ha estat promogut per la també pianista coreana, Klara Min, directora artística de la New York Concerts Artists and Associates Inc., amb l'objectiu de promoure internacionalment a joves artistes per fer la música clàssica més comunicativa i accessible al públic general.

Jungeun Kim, pianista
Nascuda a Corea, Jungeun Kim, ha estat aclamada internacionalment tant pel públic com per la crítica per les seves actuacions, sovint elogiades per la combinació impressionant de virtuosisme i colorista musicalitat. Com a guanyadora de l'Artists International's Special Presentation Award, va realitzar el seu recital de debut a Nova York, el setembre de 2001, al Weill Recital Hall de Carnegie Hall. Kim ha obtingut diversos premis als concursos World Symphony Orchestra Competition, Samik Piano Competition y Hankook Il Bo Annual Piano Competition.

Sangae Kim, flautista
Nascuda a Corea, Sangae Jim és una artista emergent caracteritzada pel seu virtuosisme i exuberància. Malgrat la seva joventut, el seu talent l'ha portat a participar a nombrosos concerts. Després d'estudiar al conservatori més exigent de Seul, Sangae Kim va guanyar el primer premi del concurs Ewha Music Competition, fet que va permetre el seu debut a Corea al Sejong Arts Center. Entre les seves actuacions destaquen recitals al Samsung Leem Museum i al Kumho Young Artist Concert Seroes.

Astrid Steinschaden, pianista
Astrid va iniciar els seus estudis superiors de piano als 16 anys amb el professor Karl-Heinz Kämmerling. Ha estat guardonada amb diversos premis internacionals com Prima la Musica, Gradus ad Parnassum o Grotrian Steinweg, i la seva feina està molt influenciada per professionals de la música com Rudolf Piernay, Robin Bowman, Breda Zakotnik, Thomas Riebl, Rainer Schmidt, Leonidas Kavakos o Igor Ozim. L'Astrid sent especial interès per la música de cambra, l'aspecte pedagògic musical i l'acompanyament de solistes i cantants lírics.

Tras ganar el Concurso Internacional de Piano Eugenia Verdet, la austriaca Astrid Steinschaden demostrará en público sus enorme valía en un concierto de jóvenes promesas que se celebra mañana en el Petit Palau. Estará acompañada de la pianista Jung Eun Kim y la flautista Sang Ae Kim, ambas coreanas. Con esta última interpretará Sonatina de Dutilleux, Sonata para flauta y piano, de Robert Muczynski y Sicilieune et Burlesque, de Alfredo Casella.

Mi padre es músico, enseña pedagogía musical, pero nunca he estudiado con él. Me sería imposible, dice categorical Astrid Steinschaden, que habla un castellano muy correcto para los nueve meses que lleva en Barcelona. El catalán lo entiendo pero aún me da vergüenza hablarlo, se excusa esta joven de brillantes ojos castaños que espera sumar este
idioma al ruso, inglés e italiano.

INTEGRADA // Nacio con un talento natural. De los 5 a los 16 años tuvo al mismo maestro, el señor Czjzek, y compaginó sus estudios de piano con el ballet, otra gran pasión que abandonó cuando entró en el exigente Mozarteum de Salzburgo, su ciudad natal. Era la única austriaca, recuerda. Quizá por eso se siente a gusto en Barcelona, rodeada de gente de todas partes. En el Barri Gotic vive en una casa donde casi todos los inquilinos son músicos del Liceu. Es una ventaja a la hora de ensayar pero el alquiler es caro comparado con Salzburgo, dice alucinada ante la última subida. Pago el doble que en Austria por la mitad de espacio.

Mientras llega su despegue artístico sigue perfeccionándose junto a Stanislav Pochekin en el Conservatori Superior del Liceu, da clases a niños y ha montado un trio con lonut

Renowned Pianists Take to the Stage for 'Evenings of Piano Concerti' at Yamaha Artist Services, Inc.

NEW YORK, NY — Acclaimed pianists Klara Min, Yoni Levyatov, Magdalena Baczewska, Yevgeniy Karafin and Peter Vinograde will perform at the premiere of "Evenings of Piano Concerti," a special concert series running bi-weekly from September 13 through October 25 at the Yamaha Piano Salon and November 2 through December 14 at the Good-Shepherd Church in New York City.

The eight-part concert series will feature thirty-nine celebrated pianists, accompanied by the Manhattan Chamber Orchestra, performing works from J.S. Bach, C.P.E. Bach, J.C. Bach, Haydn, Beethoven, Chopin, Mendelssohn and Schumann. It will also feature premieres of contemporary concertos by noted living composers Robert Sirota, Henry Martina and Reiko Fueting. The series will kick off with two performances of works by Bach on September 13 and 27 at 7:30 p.m.

"My passion for this series is to find hidden talents who are in need of exposure, besides the already well-known pianists," said Klara Min, presenter and featured pianist of the series. "The series has a mixture of pianists in different stages of their careers, including some very young talent, and I am very happy to be able to provide the opportunity for them to perform with an orchestra."

The first evening, September 13, will include pieces by Johann Sebastian Bach, such as Concerto for Harpsichord & Strings in G minor, BWV 1058, performed by Klara Min; Concerto for Harpsichord & Strings in D minor, BWV 1052, performed by Yoni Levyatov; Concerto for Harpsichord & Strings in E major, BWV 1053, performed by Magdalena Baczewska; Concerto for Harpsichord & Strings in A major, BWV 1055, performed by Yevgeniy Karafin; and Johann Christian Bach's Concerto for Harpsichord & Strings in E-flat major, Op. 7, No. 5, performed by Peter Vinograde.

On the second evening, September 27, the performances will include Johann Sebastian Bach's Concerto for Harpsichord & Strings in D major, BWV 1054, performed by Maxim Anikushin; Concerto for Harpsichord & Strings in F minor, BWV 1056, performed by Molly Kiser; Concerto for Harpsichord & Strings in F major, BWV 1057, performed by Claire Huangci; and Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach's Concerto for Harpsichord & Strings in D minor, W23, performed by Victor Goldberg. The harpsichord will be replaced by piano in all concerti.

The remainder of the Series continues bi-weekly on Thursdays at 7:30 p.m. with the following performances:

  • Evening III, October 11: Bach : for two-piano and three-piano concerti
  • Evening IV, October 25: Haydn
  • Evening V, November 2: Chopin
  • Evening VI, November 16: Premieres of Contemporary Concertos
  • Evening VII, November 30: Beethoven
  • Evening VIII, December 14: Chopin, Schumann & Mendelssohn

The concerts will take place at the 3rd floor Piano Salon at Yamaha Artist Services, Inc., located at 689 Fifth Avenue in New York City [enter at 54th Street] and the Good-Shepherd Church located 152 West 66th Street [between Broadway and Amsterdam].
